Flushes
A flush is simply five cards of the same suit(all hearts, or all clubs or all diamonds or all spades. TIP! Flushes is the proper way to refer to a flush in the plural, calling them a Flushi will get you booted from the table, unless you are joking with the cocktail waitress and tipping a $5 chip.
Example A
1. A , 6, 3, j , 5 - If these are all the same suit - then this would be a flush. If its not the same suit, then its nothing!
2. 10, 10 , Q, K A - This is just a pair.
Now what happens when both players have a flush?
Each players compare their highest card. The person with the highest card has the highest flush. The Ace is the highest high card a player can have in a flush. The Ace counts as an Ace and not as a 1 when considering it in a flush. This means that the lowest high card in a flush would be a 6 (example a hand of hearts 2, 3, 4, 5, 7) - You might ask why not a 6? (keep reading and the answer will be revealed)
What happens if both players have the same highest high card? (Ace against an Ace)
Then the players compare their second highest high cards to decide the tie breaker. If there is still a tie, they go to their third, and then fourth and finally fifth. If its a tie until the end, then they split the pot and chuckle at each other, thinking to themselves that they should have bet more aggressively to scare the other player out.
Trivia: Are there any scenarios where a flush of that has a high card of 6 could beat a flush with a high card of an Ace?
Yes! A flush with a high card of a 6 almost always beats a flush with a high card of Ace!
With a high card of a 6 its not a straight flush, and the only way that the flush with a high card of an Ace can beat it is if its actually a Straight flush, but it gets crazier as a straight flush with a high card of an Ace is actually a Royal Flush, and that just beats all!
