CardsChat Poker Forums

A quick look at Cardschat can be overwhelming, and rightly so; there’s a lot to see, learn and participate in. Some Forum categories, for instance, contain up to 30,000 posts. Fortunately, the site is well organized.

Cardschat contains considerable content in other areas as well: a blog, articles consisting of sensible poker tips, should-know fundamentals, book reviews, strategies and how-tos… including a good treatment on how to deal with loose-aggressive players who raise like mad to steal pots in Maniacs and Implied Odds.

Extensive reviews of the major (and some minor) online poker rooms may be found here, accompanied by the expected affiliate links and bonus codes. There is at least one significant benefit in both joining the Cardschat Forums and joining poker rooms using their links: exclusive freerolls and tourneys.

A typical on-line freeroll generally involves a panoply of frenzied players fighting for a share of $50 to $250 or so. Cardschat sponsors two private weekly $75 freerolls (presumably with fewer players) on Titan Poker, as well as heads-up tables, sits-and-go and buy-in tournaments (Cardschat kicks in $50 if the buy-in is $5, or $100 if the buy-in is $10).

Membership (free) in the Cardschat Online Poker Forums is required, as are 15 “quality posts” in the Forums, for Cardschat tournament participation. Cardschat’s freerolls require entrants to enter passwords which are posted on the home page a few hours before the event. ‘Loyal’ members get a sneak peek at the passwords before other members. A loyal member has participated enough in the Forums to be noticed by Those Who Notice These Things.

And what, pray, is a quality post? Well, what isn’t may be seen in the FAQ:

Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, comprising of either limited words or nonsensical content.

I’m clearly doomed.

Worth more than the price of admission (free) is the ‘Online Poker Tournaments‘ tool, a real-time listing of current and upcoming tournaments, qualifiers and freerolls at several online poker rooms.

Of deltas and negatives, the only nit I’d currently pick is that I’m being bombed with email when someone responds to posts I make in the Forums. I imagine this can be turned off, however . . . where’d I put that fershugginer FAQ?

Even if you have no interest in the Cardschat-only tourneys, Cardschat offers a heckuva lot of quality content for zero money down and zero payments — content anyone with more than a passing interest in poker will appreciate. My rating? Two aces up.

Disclosure: This is post is a paid review via ReviewMe. All care was taken to offer constructive criticism, but a postive angle is not a requirement of the review process.
