Getting back into limit
Written by Glenn on November 18th, 2005
Lately I’ve been playing a lot more limit. I was doing well in the NL ring games but I was getting bored and in a bit of a rut so I went back to what used to be my best cash game: Limit hold’em.
I’ve played 4 sessions of $1/$2 limit online at Pokerstars and I’ve been successful in most. I 3 or 4-table 6-handed games. It allows for my semi-tight aggressive play to be maximized. I can also utilize position a lot better and more often in a 6-handed game. Also by playing 4 tables at a time I can tighten up and not get bored because I’m catching playable hands a lot more often. Some of the beats can be ridiculous because at these limits it’s a lot of no-foldem holdem, but it’s mostly free money if you can play it smart.
I’ll be posting more on my own limit strategy later in the week for different situations, but when people say that ‘limit is all about draws’, I beg to disagree. Sure, alot more often you’re getting better odds to chase draws, but when its 4 handed to the turn and you have top pair you can take down the pot with that alone enough to make it profitable in the long run. A lot of times different players are sharing cards (and outs) and they’re drawing slimmer than they think, and really aren’t getting the best odds to play. It’s also very easy to put people on hands and if you can lay down some cards in tight spots you can be a very profitable lower-limit player.
More on this later… Good luck on the felt!
