Daniel Negreanu v WSOP
Written by Ben on November 6th, 2005
Recently Daniel Negreanu posted in his blog criticizing the WSOP for turning the WSOP into the World Series of Hold ‘Em. The buy ins are all low-limit level buy ins, it’s a bunch of hold ‘em tournaments, tournaments that aren’t hold ‘em are worked into the month long tournament by overlapping with the hold ‘em tournies. It’s a bad situation.
He posted recently about the Tournament of Champions that they will be holding. Anyone who finished in the top 20 of the WSOP Circuit Events qualified for a Tournament of Champions. Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, and Doyle Brunson - 3 of the best players in the world - didn’t qualify. They get to play anyway. Poker is a game of equal footing because of the rules that are followed. Phil Hellmuth is as susceptible to a bad beat as I am. So why, then, should he be given special priveleges? If I whine on television a little more will I get special exemptions?
