Cheers! Best MTT Preformance yet!
It finally happened. I’ve been trying to focus on heads up sit-n-gos and trying large field MTTs with the profit for a few weeks now and nothing was working for me. Today I won 2 of my $10 heads up matches and saw that the $11+rebuy game was about to start. I like rebuy tournaments and decided to give it a shot. I immediately rebought to get to 3,000 chips and we were off!
I honestly can’t remember much about the first hour but I know that I was up in the top 10 for awhile, then back below average when on the last hand before the rebuys were over I decided to double up or lose. I had Q♥9&spades and went all-in against J&spadesJ♣ and hit a queen high flop and I was at 7,500 chips. I used the add-on to get to 9,500 and took a 5 min break.
I can’t remember what big hands I had but I know a few times it included KK and the one that vaulted me in the top 5 for the first time since the break was this:
2 from the cutoff I’m dealt A♦K♣ and I raise it up. The BB calls and the flop came out Q&spadesJ♦10♦. We went bet - raise - re raise - all in and he was the only one at the table with more chips than me. He flipped over K&spades9♥ for the 2nd nuts straight and only a chance to chop the pot. It came out Q♣8&spades and I doubled up to near 60k in chips, I was rolllling.
Fast forward to the final 18. Getting that far was grueling but I was top 10 all the way until the final 18. I slipped as far as 12th place and was the short stack when I was dealt A&spadesA♦ in the big blind. Talk about timing. A limper and the SB called and I raised 6x the blinds (to 60k) and the limper min-re-raised to 120k. The SB said something like ‘Why don’t you want me in this?’ and called. These two were the the 1st and 2nd place chip leaders at the time. I went in for my final 8k, 128k total and both called. The flop came out
4♥5♥J&spades…3♦9♥. The SB showed A♦7♣ and the limper mucked 8&spades7&spades and I tripled up. That was nice.
Once we got 12 handed I admittedly played weak-tight-passive and folded a lot of hands I usually wouldn’t had it been a SNG, but this wasn’t a SNG! 10th-18th received $340 for their troubles while the rest of the payouts went somethign like this:
9th: $490 8th: $740 7th: $1,090 6th: $1,400 and onwards. 1st place cashed $7,700!
So anyway, I really wanted to make the final table. There was one player who wouldn’t die haha. He won K♥10♥ vs A♣K&spades with an ace on the flop, hit runner runner broadway. Anywho, I made it to the final table. And the VERY first hand I went all in with 10&spades10♦ directly to the left of the shortstack who had raised all in. The chip leader called. I was up against A♣10♣ and K♣Q♣ and survived with a 8 high flop! That secured me 8th place and $740, but I wanted to at least break the $1k mark.
A few all ins ( 33 vs 10 10) and A7 vs AK and the worst hand kept winning! Finally a player went out wtih A2 vs 88 from a good call on the flop from 88.
A few hands later two talls stacks went all-in and one of them was left with 55k. He busted out in 7th and then I decided I’d start playing hands, haha. At that point I had raised with Q♣3♣ and stole some blinds and the raise with 10-10. I went all in with A2 trying to take down the blinds and ran into 10♣10&spades in the small blind, didn’t improve, and was out in 6th.
It was a hell of a run with lots of excitement. I was definately out of my comfort zone and most people will say thats the only way to get better is to keep preforming outside of your comfort level. Took home a clean $1,400 for my 6.5 hours, not too bad :)
Good luck out there! This weekend we party hard!
Wo0! Cheers!
Oh - Here are some other key hands (The ones I got lucky in, hahah)
Q&spadesJ&spades(me) vs A♦K♣
Q♣J♦10♣ flop and I bet. He cold called. He had raised preflop and I figured he might have AK or AQ, but he simply called the bet. On the turn I bet 40k, he had 58k left and went all-in. Well, I priced myself for this one and called. He flipped over the nuts and I had 4 outs. Another Q♦ on the river sealed it and I won over 70k chips in that hand.
2&spades2♣ vs 8&spades7&spades
I limped UTG with the ducks and saw a flop: Q&spades8♣8♥. I bet out 1/3rd of the pot to see where I was. I got a caller from the button and the BB cold called. I knew I was most likely up against a Q and one 8. I put the BB on the 8 because he check-called (real sneaky). The turn was a beauty: 2♥. The BB checked again and this time I made a huge 3/4th pot bet, hoping the guy with 8 was push, and he did. He didn’t see ducks coming and I hit him for all his chips. The river was a harmless 9&spades
Q♥10♥ vs A♥Q&spades
I called a 3x raise from the SB with the Q♥10♥ and saw a flop. It came out: K&spadesJ♦8♥. Check-check. The turn brought a 7&spades. Check-check. The river was the A♦. I bet out and he raised (a 3x raise) This is probably the most beautiful feeling getting raised when you have the nuts. He made it 9k to go and I thought and reraised making it 20k to go. He thought for a long time and finally push for an additional 15k and I quickly called. He was out in something like 345th.
Maybe I’ll get to do it again someday, if so I’ll be sure to post all the lucky crap I hit then as well!

I was watching Steve play and he was playing some great poker, even with a few lucky hands. It’s impossible to do well in a MTT without getting lucky, the majority of his hands were played very well, and this week he has been on - non stop. He has played well everytime I watched.
