Hellmuth criticizes ESPN in CardPlayer
Written by Ben on October 16th, 2005
The Poker Brat recently criticized ESPN’s selection of a featured table on the WSOP in a CardPlayer magazine article. He points out that they picked a table iwth Mike Matusow instead of a table with Phil Ivey and John Juanda - two of the best players in the world, hands down. I’d have to agree with his point - Mike Matusow may be louder, but a lot of us are watching the WSOP on TV to see good poker from the world’s best. Why show Matusow when we could watch Ivey and Juanda at the same table?
Surely there was better poker from these two heavyweights.
If ESPN wants to be dominant in the televised poker realm, they need to change something. The World Poker Tour and Fox Sports Network are much better at televised poker - they show a lot more hands and have much better analysis and on air personalities.
So for once, I agree with Phil. He brings up a good point.

Yea, I noticed this year (starting with the circuit events) all EPSN shows is all in hands followed by ‘The Nuts’ segment, or a bio about a player. While I like those segments, I’d really like to see more hands.
