Pet Peeves: Small Pairs
Written by Glenn on September 23rd, 2005
I was surfing through one of my favorite poker sites, PocketFives.com when I saw they had a new article about something I’ve been questioning lately in my own play: small pocket pairs. Check out the article here: Playing Small Pocket Pairs.
I always found it hard to play small pairs knowing that if I’m called I’m at best a coin fflip and possibly 80/20 to an overpair, but you have to have the stones.
His approach to the play of small pocket contradicts the overdone “Limp and hope to hit a set” strategy. I think he makes really good points and gives a great example on how aggressive play is the winning play. If you haven’t gotten that idea in your head from my past 5 posts, go read Doyle Brunson’s SuperSystem (The first version) on NL Holdem and take it from a certified pro at poker, aggression is key.
Enjoy!
