Stacked
Written by Ben on September 7th, 2005
I have never been a fan of poker video games. It’s fake money, how can I take it seriously? Well, with the new video game Stacked I think all of that is about to change. It features Daniel Negreanu, David Williams, Jennifer Harman, Evelyn Ng, Josh Arieh, and some other well known professionals. After 3 years in development, the release date is coming up and I couldn’t be more excited. Here’s why…
Stacked is a 3D poker tournament game focusing on no limit texas hold ‘em. The “featured” player is Daniel Negreanu - one of the best tournament players in the world. Through Daniel’s videos and the always adapting AI, the game should really help new and experienced players find holes in their game.
The modes of play are either single player, where you can test your skills against “Poki” - the name they gave to the AI - or you can play online against players from all over the world. It keeps tracks of more than just who wins the most money in tournaments, but rather who beats who and it ranks you based on how good the players you beat are. What’s this mean? You and your friends can finally determine who’s the best.
There will be Stacked Masters tournaments - tournaments that are sanctioned by the Masters system. You can gain entry to these by buying in with online earnings or by winning a satellite. These games will test the best against the best. You can also play in casual tournaments with friends that offer a variety of buy in and tournament structure options.
This game is going to set a new standard for poker video games and I’m very excited about it. The AI that adapts to how we play will be a new challenge that quickly exposes holes in our games - something everyone can learn from.
Check out Stacked’s website and I hope I’m not the only one playing online when it’s released!
